During the boat trips to observe the white-tailed sea eagles we were followed by seagulls. By dozens and dozens of seagulls. They were so many and so dynamic as to catch the attention of Ekaterina, who was very attracted by their evolutions.

"Shortly before there had been a strong storm and the air was fresh and clean. You could smell the sea. We were followed by dozens of seagulls and then, all of a sudden, a magnificent rainbow came out".

(Ekaterina Bee)

"The seagulls remained in my heart. It was strange but beautiful to be completely surrounded by them. I had a lot of fun photographing them and watching the seagulls on their flights as they followed our boat".

(Ekaterina Bee)

"Since the beginning I liked the seagulls that flew over our boat, even if the trip was to observe  white-tailed sea eagles.  They were so many and so close!

I never imagined I could win an award at the NHM Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition in London!  Now seagulls are among my favourite animals!"  (Ekaterina Bee)

(Ekaterina Bee)

"The experience of the ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London was beautiful and exciting. Although later I fell asleep on dad for two hours. I believe for the tiredness of the day and for the emotion. But then, at midnight, I woke up and visited the exhibition!"

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

The herring gull (Larus argentatus) has a red spot on the lower part of the beak, which easily distinguishes it from the common gull.

When a chick asks for food it does not do it by chance, but pecks just the red dot on the beak. The red dot is therefore a chromatic signal. When is hungry the chick emits a signal consisting in pecking the red dot on the parent's beak. The latter, in turn, responds by regurgitating the food.
